I’m out of breath.


W : I’m out of breath.
-out of breath : gasping for air, typically after exercise.
"he arrived on the top floor out of breath"

M : You rode your bicycle here again?
-rode : past of ride.
-ride : sit on and control the movement of (an animal, especially a horse), typically as a recreation or sport.

W : Yeah, I did. I love getting exercise while coming to school.
-exercise : activity requiring physical effort, carried out especially to sustain or improve health and fitness.

M : Isn’t it dangerous to ride in traffic?
-traffic : vehicles moving on a road or public highway.

W : When there are no bike lanes, yes. But I try to ride slowly and safely.
-bike lane : a division of a road marked off with painted lines, for use by cyclists.

M : I see. Hey, here, drink some water and catch your breath.




























-catch your breath : rest after exercise to restore normal breathing.

I loved it. 

And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on. 

-stumbled : trip or momentarily lose one's balance; almost fall.
-curiosity : a strong desire to know or learn something.
-intuition : the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning.
-turn out : prove to be the case.
-later on : Subsequently, afterward

Let me give you one example:

-example : a thing characteristic of its kind or illustrating a general rule.

Reed College at that time offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country. 

-offer : present or proffer (something) for (someone) to accept or reject as so desired.
-perhaps : used to express uncertainty or possibility.
-calligraphy : decorative handwriting or handwritten lettering.
-instruction : teaching; education.

Throughout the campus every poster, every label on every drawer, was beautifully hand calligraphed. 

-Throughout : in every part of (a place or object).





























-drawer : a boxlike storage compartment without a lid, made to slide horizontally in and out of a desk, chest, or other piece of furniture.

W : Another weekend is coming up.
-another : used to refer to a different person or thing from one already mentioned or known about.

M : I hope we can relax this weekend.
-relax : rest or engage in an enjoyable activity so as to become less tired or anxious.

W : Tell me about it. I don’t want anything to come up. 
-Tell me about it. : used as an ironic acknowledgment of one's familiarity with a difficult or unpleasant situation or experience described by someone else.
-come up : (of an issue, situation, or problem) occur or present itself, especially unexpectedly.

M : How about we turn off our phones?
-turn off : an instance of turning or switching something off.

W : For the whole weekend? Can you live without your phone that long?
-whole : all of; entire.

M : Hmm... maybe not. Forget that idea.
-maybe not : something to say when you're unsure about what you just said



























-Forget : inadvertently neglect to do, bring, or mention something. ; fail to remember.

M : Mom, I’m so stressed out.
-stressed out : being anxious, tired and irritable because of too much work or pressure.

W : I bet. Your grades are slipping.
-slip : escape or get loose from (a means of restraint).

M : I’m doing my best, but I can’t get better grades. I need some help, Mom.
-grade : a particular level of rank, quality, proficiency, intensity, or value.

W : Thanks for being honest with me. Why don’t you find an online tutor?
-honest : free of deceit and untruthfulness; sincere.
-online : while so connected or under computer control.

M : That’s a good idea, Mom. Will you pay for one?
-pay : give (someone) money that is due for work done, goods received, or a debt incurred.

W : As long as your grades improve. Let’s try it out for a couple months.
-As long as : provided that.


























-couple : two individuals of the same sort considered together.

W : Last month I was so excited to get this winter jacket, but I don’t know what to do with my old one.
-excited : very enthusiastic and eager.

M : Can you think of anybody that would like to have it?
-anybody : anyone. ; a person of any importance.

W : I can’t think of anybody in need of one.
-in need of something : needing something

M : We can always donate it to charity. Do you have anything else to donate?
-donate : give (money or goods) for a good cause, for example to a charity.
-charity : an organization set up to provide help and raise money for those in need.

W : Let me see what else I can give up.























-give up : cease making an effort; resign oneself to failure.

Is spinach included by any chance?



W : Hi, Ryan. Come and try this new dish.

 -dish : the food contained or served in a dish.



M : Wow, it smells so good. (after tasting it) Mom, it tastes out of this world. What did you make it with?

-out of this world : extremely good

-tastes : eat or drink a small portion of.



W : I used chicken stock and some vegetables.

-stock : Stock is the liquid produced by simmering raw ingredients



M : Is spinach included by any chance?

-included : comprise or contain as part of a whole.

-by any chance : possibly (used in tentative inquiries or suggestions).



W : Yes. I made it with my special recipe.

-recipe : a set of instructions for preparing a particular dish, including a list of the ingredients required.



M : Oh, you know I don’t like spinach, but it tastes okay.

-spinach : a widely cultivated edible Asian plant of the goosefoot family, with large, dark green leaves that are eaten raw or cooked as a vegetable.
