There’s someone at the door.
CONVERSATION
W: Hey, there’s someone at the door.
-someone : an unknown or unspecified person; some person.
-door : a doorway.
M: Who can it possibly be at this time of night?
-possibly : used to emphasize that something is difficult, surprising, or bewildering.
-be : exist.
-night : the period of darkness in each twenty-four hours; the time from sunset to sunrise.
W: Oh, I think it’s a deliveryman.
-deliveryman : a person who delivers wholesale or retail goods to customers usually over a regular local route.
M: Did you order something on the Internet?
-order : request (something) to be made, supplied, or served.
-Internet : The global communication network that allows almost all computers worldwide to connect and exchange information. Some of the early impetus for such a network came from the U.S. government network Arpanet, starting in the 1960s.
W: Yes, I guess it’s my book. It got here really quickly!
-guess : make a conjecture about.
-conjecture : An opinion or conclusion formed on the basis of incomplete information.
M: When did you order it?
-When : at what time.
W: This morning. Sometimes companies deliver even at night.
-Sometimes : occasionally, rather than all of the time.
-company : a commercial business.
-deliver : bring and hand over (a letter, parcel, or ordered goods) to the proper recipient or address.
-even : used in comparisons for emphasis.
