I always have trouble following directions.



Conversation



M : I think I overcooked the steak again.



overcooked : cook too much or for too long.

steak : a thick slice of beef or other high-quality meat or fish.

again : returning to a previous position or condition.



W : It is quite burnt.



quite : to a certain or fairly significant extent or degree; fairly.

burnt : past tense: burnt; past participle: burnt

burn :damage or injure by heat or fire.



M : I always have trouble following directions.



trouble : difficulty or problems.

follow : act according to (an instruction or precept).

direction : the management or guidance of someone or something.



W : Well, overcooked steak is better than no steak.



better : comparative of good and well1.

than : introducing the second element in a comparison.



M : That’s nice of you to say.



That’s nice of you to say : you don't think that the person's compliment is really deserved. You think that they're just saying nice things to you to be polite, or that their opinion of you is higher than it should be. In these situations, you can respond to the praise or compliment with "That's nice of you to say."



W : I’m just trying to be grateful.



grateful : feeling or showing an appreciation of kindness; thankful.



M : I’d be grateful if you helped me wash the dishes later.



help : make it easier for (someone) to do something by offering one's services or resources.

wash the dishes : the process of cleaning cooking utensils, dishes, cutlery and other items.

later : goodbye for the present; see you later.



W : Sure. I’d be happy to help. Let’s eat first!



Sure : confident in what one thinks or knows; having no doubt that one is right.

happy : feeling or showing pleasure or contentment.

content: in a state of peaceful happiness.
