I don’t get how something so basic can be so expensive.

W2 : You know, I was wondering the same thing recently.
-wonder : desire or be curious to know something.
-recently : at a recent time; not long ago.
W1 : I don’t get how something so basic can be so expensive.
-basic : forming an essential foundation or starting point; fundamental.
-expensive : costing a lot of money.
W2 : Perhaps it has to do with the weather.
-Perhaps : used to express uncertainty or possibility.
W1 : The weather?
-weather : the state of the atmosphere at a place and time as regards heat, dryness, sunshine, wind, rain, etc.
W2 : Yes, we’ve had extreme weather the last few years.
-extreme : not usual; exceptional.
-last : most recent in time; latest.
W1 : That explains why other food is more expensive too.
-explain : make (an idea, situation, or problem) clear to someone by describing it in more detail or revealing relevant facts or ideas.
-other : used to refer to a person or thing that is different or distinct from one already mentioned or known about.
W2 : Yes, it sure does.
